Buying Bathroom Tiles
Bathroom design is a rapidly growing area of interior design that is beginning to have a knock on effect on the resale value of homes. Countless studies have shown that contemporary bathroom designs sell houses more easily and at a higher price than those with rundown washroom facilities. What’s more, given the simplicity of the changes needed to comprise modern design, bathroom redecoration can prove to be a profitable way of improving your home. One of the most critical features in renovating a bathroom is the tiles used, and understanding the fundamentals of tile buying is essential to ensure you can improve your bathroom for as little cost as possible without skimping on quality.
Buying bathroom tiles might sound like an easy process, but for the first time or inexperienced buyer it can be fraught with danger. The most obvious mistake is buying the wrong quantity – too many or too little tiles can lead to frustration and unnecessary expense. Of course, it is naturally better to buy around 10% more tiles than you imagine you will require in order to cater for any wastage and to ensure you don’t run out mid-project – there really is nothing worse than running out of tiles to find they are no longer in stock at your local tile store. In order to gauge the quantity of tiles you’ll require, measure the wall space you intend to tile, calculate the area and divide the area by the size of the individual tiles – this should give you a rough number to work on, and by going a little extra over that number, you really can’t go wrong.
When buying bathroom tiles, it’s important to get to grips with the kind of styles that really sell bathrooms to potential home buyers. Generally, you’re looking for something that is plain in colour or is in keeping with contemporary minimalist trends. By creating that blank canvas look, you can allow potential buyers to appreciate the full extent of your room, which can lead to an improved perception of your home as a whole. Try to stay away from tiles that are individually patterned, although tiles laid to form an abstract pattern on the wall may be OK, depending on the style in which they are set.
When buying bathroom tiles, consider heading to a building merchants for discount prices. Provided you have a large wallspace to tile, you should be able to pick up a range of stylish tiles at trade prices, without having to pay too much of a retail markup to decorate on a budget.
Bathroom tiles are a great way to jazz up even the dullest of bathroom interiors. Coming in a range of colours and styles there’s no reason not to head on down to your local home store and pick up a box or two for redecorating your bathroom. What’s more, with the availability of great and easy ways to save money on the purchase price, buying bathroom tiles might just be the best way to increase the value of your home and heighten your enjoyment of your bathroom facilities.

Can I paint dated glazed ceramic bathroom tile?
My main bathroom is all tile, peach colored. I was wondering if there was paint that I would be able to use to effectively cover it—it is also in the shower and will get wet daily. The floor is also tile but a slightly different yet still ceramic tile, also peach but a little darker. I was hoping to just get a more neutral color that will get us through the next 5 years until we can remodel with updated tile…….so sick of peach…….
Yes you can paint them as long as you use the right product. Many universities have done studies on a product called Jaxsan. It is manufactured by a company called Plastic Coatings Corporation in Saint Albans, West Virginia. They can tint their products to match any color that Sherwin Williams has. They buy their dyes from the same company. I would recommend Jaxsan AG-102 for your project. It only comes in Super Gloss and is Bright White unless another color is requested. They do not have a web site as of yet. You can reach them at (304)755-9151 and someone will probably give me some crap for posting their number but I can assure you it is ok. Ask for Greg and explain to him what your objective is and he will be able to tell you if their product will be appropriate for your application and what you will need to do for preparing the surface. Greg is the company chemist. They sell by the gallon, by the bucket, or by the drum. Special order colors cost a bit more and will delay shipping. Good luck, I hope it turns out nice. Search engine the name Jaxsan for university study results.
By the way this is a water base product and it has been used to repair swimming pools and it never failed. You can get it wet all you want and it won’t hurt it.

what is the best way to get rid of bathroom mold in the caulking, tile grout and textured ceiling, for good.?
bathroom has no exhaust fan. Family of six, one bathroom. tile around tub, swirl textured ceiling.
Is this a gut and redue or can this be done with minimum cost?
I recommend Tilex; it really cuts deeply into the mold. If a ceiling fan is too hard or costly, ANY fan in the bathroom can help move the humidity out.
Mold spores are everywhere; they simply need water to grow. Install a big fan in the ceiling, put a stand-up fan near the door and clean often. If you have a window, you could get a window fan too.

Is it worth painting bathroom tiles with tile paint?
I’m thinking of painting my brown bathroom tiles with white tile paint, is this a good idea, and are there any pitfalls we should be aware of?
I did mine two years ago they still look good today.
You must clean all traces of grease dust dirt off the tiles.
keep windows closed must be dust free to get the best result.
follow instructions on tin.
I used a small radiator sponge roller to apply mine just one coat, don’t go over it, as it will lift it off again.
when it is dry if you want to put on a second coat follow same dust free rules.
no one can tell I painted over them.
If you have horrible brown tiles what have you got to lose? If you dont like the end result give it six months and tile over the old ones or break them off.

Best way to demolish bathroom tile without messing up the wall that is attached to?
I am trying to demolish the tile that is in my girlfriends bathroom. She just bought a condo in a 60 year old building. I tried hammering with a 3 pound hammer but no luck. Any good suggestions on tile removal without damaging the structure would be great!
Because you said you are looking at a 60 year old building my guess is you have a “mud” job. The tile is probably set on concrete with wire mesh in it. It can be difficult to remove. This type of installation is made to last and you might want to rethink tearing it out. You may have to tear it down to the studs to redo it.
I’d advise you to go to this website and post your question with some photos. The tile pros there will be able to advise you:

here is a thread that discusses the same type of job, may help: http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47053

Bathroom Tile?
I bought my house about 5 years ago and I have always had this problem. For some reason the spacing on the bottom row of tiles never lined up and they are thinker (probably were replaced). Anyways, it is a pain to clean. It is black (some kind of mold) and I can’t get rid of it. Suggestions?
I used one of the bathroom cleaners that is thick and clears mildew and mold. I left it on for the day then did the best I could cleaning it with a toothbrush. When I was finished all that, I put silicone in the crack and I had a nice clean line on my tiles.
1305 Tiny 3/8 Mosaic Glass Tiles Assorted Aquas
A few years ago I saw a bathroom tile and shower cleaner that removed any stain. Cant remember the name!?
Ended up buying it in the RiteAid As Seen On TV section, it was insane. Our student apartment had what we thought was black tiles in the hall. Turns out they were actually checkerboard white and black. We thought the bathroom fixtures were ivory, turns out they were bright white. The stuff was so powerful I spilled a little on the floor in my bedroom and it ate through my hardwood floor. A drop that didnt get washed away dried up and my leg brushed up against it and it ate through my tights…I could actually watch them falling apart all the way up my leg! It ate through 3 shirts and a box before we finally threw out the leftover stuff. Now we have a foul bathroom bc the old lady who lived here before mever cleaned and we desperately need to find this stuff. It was NOT Kaboom, I think ZAP was in the name but I cant find the right stuff on the asseenontv.com website. HELP!
Maybe Lime Away or CLR? There actually is a Zap cleaner. There is info on the net that ssays it will ruin your bathroom. Might want to check that out before buying.http://www.zapcleaner.net/index.html

How can you remove like film from marble tile that you got from using bathroom tile cleaner?
My boyfriend accidently used the wrong tile cleaner on the marble tile floor. It was the tile cleaner for bathroom tile he got it mixed up with the bottle for the marble cleaner made by the same brand so the bottles looked alike. Anyway, it created a spotty dull film over the tile, marble tile cleaner could not remove it. So is there any other solutions that could remove it without damaging the tile?

bathroom tile?
i had a leak in my wall in the bathroom. it was obviously behind the bathroom wall( tile wall) they fixed the leak (the plumbers) but had to cut a big hole in the tile and didnt fix it . the guy said;”i dont do walls you will have to get someone out here to fix that for you, i can give you the name of someone that will do it cheap about $1,500.00 or $2.000.00 . the hole is about 4 or 5 in long and about 4 or 5 inches wide .right now i cant afford that and i would like to know if anyone knows how i can at least cover it there is some kind of metal stuff behind the tile . and the hole is between the toilet and the vanity. its cold in there.
the price seems high. if you included a picture, i would help you more. what you need is the waterproof sheetrock. place it just like fixing a hole a wall. just remember to seal it. just go to home depot or other home improvement store and ask.

I have a black ceramic soap dish built into my tile bathroom wall that got chipped. Any advice on fixing?
I have a black ceramic soap dish built into my tile bathroom wall, and recently something fell on it and chipped a piece away. The piece got thrown away without my realizing it. Any advice on how to fill in/repaint or otherwise fix the chip?
The easiest way is to use a black nail polish as the gal suggested. Or you can get an enamel repair touch up from your local hardware or appliance shop. Or easier, get some black shiny model car paint ( in those real small glass bottles) and paint it on to cover the chip. GL
